Did you know...

During the winter months, our skin tends to become more sensitive and drier due to heating, hot showers, and the low humidity that comes with cooler weather?

It is important to ensure your cleansing and skincare routine adjusts as the weather changes. We recently spoke to Dr. Philip Tong, Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, about his favourite products from our Atoderm range and why he recommends these to his dry skin and eczema-prone patients.

FOR DRY SKIN

Dr Tong encourages the use of the new Atoderm Shower Oil for a “nourishing” effect on the skin that provides “instant hydration” straight from the shower. While following with the Atoderm Crème to “recreate the skin barrier and maintain the water content of skin”. These two are the ultimate duo for nourishing and hydrating dry skin containing ingredients such as glycerin and niacinamide which Dr Tong says will help to “soothe and calm irritated skin” with repairing properties of niacinamide.

FOR ATOPIC, ECZEMA-PRONE SKIN

Our Atoderm range is widely used with eczema patients and helps people suffering from flare-ups. The ultimate eczema caring routine starts with the Atoderm Intensive Gel Moussant to “calm the skin and restore its barrier”. This soap-free cleanser gently purifies the skin while restoring lipids and soothing it. Dr Tong recommends using the Atoderm Intensive Baume at night as it is a “thicker cream” that helps reduce the severity of eczema flare ups and decreases the urge to scratch. This cream is also recommended for people who prefer the texture of a richer balm on the skin, however the Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème has just launched in Australia and this lightweight gel-like cream is “fast absorbing” and has the same soothing effect as the Atoderm Intensive Baume.

The Intensive Gel-Crème is the newest product in the Atoderm range and can assist with those patients that are not used to thicker creams such as the Intensive Baume...

For eczema patients, I would recommend the use of the Intensive Gel Moussant as a soap-free cleanser, and to use the Intensive Gel-Crème during the day and the Intensive Baume at night. The Gel-Crème would be suitable for young children or adults twice a day if they do not like the feel of thicker creams on their skin.

I would suggest using the Atoderm cleansers daily to replenish and restore the skin barrier and moisturisers twice a day [morning and night].

The Intensive Baume contains PEA to relieve the itch-scratch cycle but also Bioderma’s patented Lipigenium™ that helps to recreate a healthy and intact skin barrier to prevent further irritation from damaged, dry and inflamed skin.

The Intensive Gel-Crème is the newest product in the Atoderm range and can assist those patients that are not used to thicker creams such as the Intensive Baume or wish to have a product that can be used on the face or on hair-bearing areas such as the arms and legs. The new formulation is fast absorbing and has a light texture which is perfect for these body locations.

The Atoderm Shower oil contains niacinamide and plant biolipids (derived from coconut and sunflower) to help hydrate and nourish dry skin. The Atoderm Crème contains a patented Skin Protect™ complex that recreates the skin barrier and maintains the water content of skin.

The Atoderm Shower oil is more of a nourishing oil that provides instant hydration and can be used as a maintenance strategy in between eczema flares whereas the Atoderm Gel Moussant is very suited for eczema flares by repairing the skin barrier and restoring lipids to reduce itching.
